Joel Campbell has hit back at Arsenal’s decision to send him out on loan to Sporting Lisbon again this season.
Campbell
joined the Gunners from Costa Rican club Saprissa in 2011 and was
subsequently sent out on loan to Lorient, Real Betis and Olympiacos for
the following three seasons. After impressing during a half-season loan spell at Villarreal, Campbell earned a place in Arsenal’s squad for the 2015-16 campaign and made 30 appearances for the Gunners, scoring four goals.
“I think I deserved to play more after what I did last year, but now is a new stage. I feel good, happy, this is a new experience,” he told Portuguese newspaper A Bola.
But Gunners scout Luis Boa Morte thinks the striker will return as a better player, telling the club’s official website: “He’s got all the qualities to play for them (Sporting) and as long as he does well, I’m sure we’ll be the beneficiaries here because he’ll come back an even better player. That’s the most important thing.”
