ABOUT EDGE
Afro-Pop/Soul singer, songwriter and musician EDGE - real name Stephen Golbador - was born in Lagos, Nigeria and raised in Jos, Plateau State. First channelling his creativity through the medium of dance at the tender age of four, Edge won many competitions and awards as a child dancer and soon after, he uncovered a heightened passion for music after discovering he could express himself vocally.
With dancing still firmly etched in his composition, Edge grew to prominence as a member of the very prolific dance group The Smooth Criminal which was created by legendary Nigerian Pop duo P-Square. He also made a cameo appearance as a dancer in the music video for rapper M.I’s breakout single “Crowd Mentality”. Musically, Edge’s defining moment came when M.I produced his breakthrough single “Hurricane” which went on to top the charts on popular Jos radio show, The Power Countdown - an achievement previously garnered by the likes of 2Face, Asa, P-Square, J. Martins, Omawumi and M.I among others.
With influences coming from the likes of Maxwell, John Legend, Musiq Soulchild, D’Angelo, 2Face and Asa as well as frequent encouragements from his widowed mother, Edge embraced his creativity even more and forged ahead to musically express himself fully by writing and performing songs that cut across several genres while dwelling largely within the confines of a fusion of Afro Soul, Pop, Rock and the Blues.
Edge’s music craft has evolved progressively as he now works with a live band and has high hopes of taking over the music world with the release of his forthcoming debut album titled High On Music which is slated to be released on Black Palms Records. His first single “Bad Boy” is scheduled for release on October 1, 2012 and with this release, Edge hopes to spring a new trend in the Afro-Pop/Soul music scene with the hip, jivey and groovy Afro-Soul record. There is no doubt that Edge is a man and a musician for the times and one who will transform the music landscape, not just in Nigeria but in Africa at large.
